Everybody, meet Britany Simon. If you're an HGTV addict fan like me, you've probably seen this girl around. I first stumbled upon her work when she was on Design Star last summer (and no, I don't want to talk about it...I'm still devastated she didn't win). Sensitive issue. Moving on to something more cheerful: her work.
Britany is the mastermind behind Britany Simon Design, a fabulous design firm based out of Arizona. Her style is characterized by bold patterns, loads of black and white, and pops of color. Basically, she's my homegirl and identical design twin. Is that a thing? Because it is now.
Although I adore all of her work, one of my absolute favorite spaces she designed is this eclectic little gem of a living room. Prepare yourself for a feast, because what I'm about to show you is Thanksgiving for your eyes.

Why I Love It: I'm obsessed with this room because it is a combination of so many styles. Look at one vignette and you see a dash of vintage chic. Move over to another and you see an explosion of mid-century modern. Pair that with a little glam and some straight up modern and what do you get? I don't really know what to call it, but clearly it's amazing.
Why It Works: The reason Britany was able to combine all of these styles so effectively boils down to one thing: simplicity. If you notice, there are only a few colors used in the room. In fact, I see precisely four: black, white, yellow, and brown (and yes, I do consider black and white colors, thankyouverymuch). By keeping a simple color palette, you can mix and match pieces from different styles, while still creating a room that feels cohesive.
The other reason it works is because each color is used throughout the room. Look at each picture: can you find each of the four colors in every shot? That's right, you can. Hello complete and beautiful space, I'm Kirsten, it's nice to meet you.
So what do we take away from this? Two things: 1. You don't need to be constrained to one style when decorating your spaces. Maintain a consistent color palette, then feel free to mix and match pieces. 2. Britany Simon needs to hire me. Who cares that I live in MN, am i riiiight? :)
Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday!
