It's funny how trends change in home design. One minute, light maple cabinets are all the rage, and the next minute, people are painting them white as fast as they can. Although I love white cabinets and trim because they pair with absolutely everything, I do have a soft spot in my heart for natural wood. And currently, that soft spot is quite large when it comes to dark, rustic wood.
When the dark wood has an ashy, cool undertone, it pairs wonderfully with cool grays and whites as you can see in the above kitchen. And if you know me, you know I'm a big fan of gray + white. Plus, it really makes the stainless steel appliances pop.
Another example I adore is Jenna Sue's bathroom. I love how she pairs the modern sink and backsplash with the rustic mirrors and lights. If you haven't seen Jenna's work before, go check out her house tour...I'm head over heels in love.
If you're on board with this trend, yet aren't about to redo your kitchen or bath, try incorporating the wood through different furniture pieces, such as the Dawson Media Console from Pottery Barn.
So what do you all think of this trend? Is it a hit or miss in your book? I'd love to hear what you think! Have a wonderful weekend!
As much as I love a classic white kitchen, if I had to go with a wood tone I'd definitely pick medium-to-dark over light. Dark wood just feels richer and moodier, and it adds a little more interest to a room than light wood.
