master bedroom update (part 1)

Break has officially begun, and this girl is LOVING not having to worry about homework.  And we all know what no homework means...time for house projects!  I was really excited because several of our rooms are in their final stages of completion, and I had planned to conquer them all over break.  Until Crate & Barrel had their amazing sale.

One of our rooms that was about 90% done was our master bedroom.  We went with a simple color palette: black & white with pops of turquoise and green.  I made a headboard, refinished a bunch of furniture, and we were well on our way to a finished room.

Here is our original inspiration board:

And this is how the room was shaping up:

All we had left to do was hang some artwork and pictures, do a little accessorizing, and buy a base for our bed.  Yeah, that's right, I cheated in the picture.  I wanted a picture showing how it would look, so we propped the mattress up on 5 gallon buckets.

Ever since we bought our new mattress in September, it's been loving its home on the floor.  We didn't buy a box spring because we both knew we wanted to get a platform bed, and we upgraded our size, so we didn't have any sort of frame for it to sit on.  So alas, the past 3 months of our life we've been sleeping on the floor.

I've been searching non-stop for a base for our bed, and even contemplated making one since we wanted a simple design.  I was hoping for something like this but without drawers.

However, everything I found I thought was either too expensive for being so simple, or too cheap to be even remotely good quality.  So I was stuck.  Until Crate & Barrel came along.

I adore Crate & Barrel...hands down it is one of my favorite stores, so when I heard about their sale (40% off sale furniture? yes please), I was there in a heartbeat.  Well, as it turns out, not only did we find a bed we liked, we bought it.  And we couldn't be more excited.  The only problem: it's brown.  And it has a headboard.  And is a completely different style than what our room currently is.  Basically, as far as the design of our bedroom goes, we have to start over.  But guess what?  Not only am I fine with it, I am ecstatic.

I'm so proud of the new design, and I can't wait to share it with you...on Wednesday. :)
