california dreamin'

I just got back from a fabulous trip to California.  Although the middle of the semester seems like an odd time to go on vacation, it was so much fun to be able to escape Minnesota for a week and spend time with my cousin.  She is in vet school, and you all know I'm still in school, so it wasn't your typical vacation.  While we did go out exploring, we also spent time, curled up in her bedroom, studying our little brains out.

I've been to Los Angeles once before, but I didn't get to do any site seeing.  So this time, we not only did the stereotypical "LA" things, i.e. Hollywood Boulevard, Kodak Theater, etc., but we also went on some off-the-beaten-path excursions.  We hiked Runyon Canyon, ate at fabulous local restaurants, and went "wine tasting" at the Wine Detective.  I also go the chance to tour the Gamble House, which was so much fun!  I will say, it was really strange seeing an prairie style house smack dab in the midst of a bunch of spanish and and greek inspired architecture.

After my week in LA however, I'm having some serious design envy.  There are so many fabulous little local home decor boutiques that I wish I could have spent all week perusing.  I seriously want to move there just for the shopping.

Some of my favorite places:

Modernist Gray Lamps

Derby Sofa

Industrial Wire Cage Lamps

Beverly Cohen Coffee Table

So how about you?  What are your favorite boutiques in your town?
