Can you believe Thanksgiving is over and Christmas season is upon us? I for one, am so excited because I absolutely ADORE Christmas. From decorations to snow to hot cocoa, I love everything about this season...err, most things about this season. The one thing I don't care for: Christmas figurines.
Here's the thing about me: I detest knickknacks. I don't understand them, and I think so many of them are just cheesy. I know some people collect knickknacks for their sentimental value, but I personally would rather remember times and people through pictures than through things. To each his own, right?
Due to my lack of affection for these little items, I prefer a much more minimalist approach to holiday decorating. In my opinion, simple decorations create a home that is both festive AND beautiful. So over the next month, I'll be sharing with you some of my favorite ways to decorate for the holidays, starting with Christmas trees.
We all know that the Christmas tree is the epitome of Christmas decorations. However, I love including other trees in various places throughout the house. One trend I am all on board with is creating wooden trees. They are simple, beautiful, often made of recycled materials (woot woot), and pretty gosh darn easy to make yourself. Take a gander at some of the beauties below.

This festive little guy is made from old rulers glued together. I love the rustic feel you get from the different textures of the various rulers.
This would be an easy DIY with some scrap wood, glue, and a little bit of paint. Or, if DIY isn't your cup of tea, you can purchase one of these gems from Wood, Wool & Stool.
This tree, made of recycled palettes, is so simple yet so genius. If you don't have room for a real tree, after a few cuts and a few nails, you too can have your own little tree to adorn with lights.
As for these last two images, I cannot rant and rave enough about them. Who would have ever thought a some twigs mixed with a few white pom-poms would look so elegant?
Have you all started decorating for the season yet? In what ways do you plan to include Christmas trees in your decorations? I'd love to hear your ideas!
Again love those sticks!! The last tree is just adorable.
ReplyDeletelove this idea! so cute! xox
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I started decorating the minute we got back from Thanksgiving. I've had to go out and buy some stuff because the decor we used in the condo was looking pretty paltry in a bigger house, but that's definitely not a problem. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove all of these non-traditional trees! I actually didn't want to do a "regular" tree this year, but my husband was all sad about it, so we put it up anyway. Maybe next year I can talk him into something more awesome.
