television tales

Allow me to introduce you to Noel's pride and joy.  Ever since I met him during my sophomore year of college, he has talked about how he couldn't wait to buy a super nice tv once he graduated and got his first job.  Well, after he graduated, we got engaged, so all of our extra pennies went towards paying for the wedding...so he lived without a tv of his own for a solid year and a half (don't feel too bad for him though, he had a roommate for majority of that who had a nice tv here).

Anyways, after the wedding, we decided we'd wait until Thanksgiving to hopefully score a sweet deal (because we're all about saving a few dollars when we can).  So from August until November, Mr. Noel spent his free time researching what seemed like every. single. tv. in. existence. until he finally settled on ours.  Thanksgiving rolled around, we bought this bad boy, and we both stared in amazement when it finally arrived.

Now, let me tell you...this guy is BIG.  60 inches big.  Which to Noel (and probably the entire male population) is the greatest thing ever.  There is, however, one major downfall to having a huge tv.  It is incredibly difficult to design around.

Even though the tv is big, the wall it's on is huge, so the space still felt really empty with just the tv.  So for the last few months, I've been trying to tackle this space, and today, I just about finished it.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it's coming together.  However, now that I take a step back and look at it, I can tell that the shelf with the photos on it definitely needs to be moved down about 3-4 inches. This will make the top of all the picture line up, and there won't be such a big gap between the ledge and the tv.  From further back, the awkwardness of the shelf is even more obvious. (Don't mind our crooked rug and disassembled couch - that's what happens when your dog has your shoe and you run around like a crazy person trying to catch her).

In other news, I'm a super nerd and organized all of our DVD's by color.  Noel made major fun of me.  I think it looks awesome (especially since DVD's are normally something I'd want to hide).

And also a fun fact for you: our "entertainment center" is actually a bookcase (the Shift bookcase from Crate & Barrel).  We were having a really hard time deciding on a media stand for the tv, and we didn't really want to spend a lot of money at the moment.  So I decided rather than spend $1000 on a new media stand and not be 100% sure about it, or spend $300 on a cheap one that we'd only use for a little while, that we'd instead use the bookcase and turn it on it's side.

I am SO happy we decided to go this route because 1) it was super affordable (only $200), and 2) it's a really high quality bookcase that I'll definitely be able to use somewhere else in the house when we actually buy an entertainment center, and 3) all the little small shelves are open to the back, so it's absolutely perfect for running cords to the tv.

I feel like this was a really random/scatterbrained post. So I'll just leave it at that, and wish you all a happy Wednesday. :)
