subtle statements

We've all heard the cliche, "it's the little things that mean the most," and although I hate to be cliche, I must admit the saying holds true in design.  Have you ever noticed how a room still feels empty even when you move your furniture in?  As large and bulky as those pieces may be, it isn't until all the lamps and frames (in other words the little pieces) are put into their places, that the room starts to feel complete.

Not only can little details complete a room, but they can completely transform a room.  Case in point: these bookshelves.  Notice the world of difference adding a little wallpaper or a splash of color to their shelves can make.

That subtle splash of color is just what it took to pull everything together...and what a wonderful difference it made!

  1. We've done this and boy, did it make a cheap bookshelf from Walmart look stunning!!! So far we have only added beadboard to the backing and trimmed them out with beveled trim, but I would love to do it with fabric or wallpaper. BTW I love your blog...can't wait to see your silverware ring tutorial!!!
