wedding wednesday: ruffles

There's something I just love about ruffles.  Perhaps it's their soft, feminine quality - all I know is I just adore the texture they add to a room.  Below are some examples of products that incorporate these wonderful ruffles, many of which are from one of my all-time favorite stores: Anthropologie.  If you haven't ever been there, I highly suggest you check it out!  Without further ado...

sliding doors

Recently, I have been drooling over the large, colorful sliding doors I have been seeing all over the internet.  These doors are a way to create a very unique focal point in a room, and they are beautiful whether they are open or shut.  In the first group below, you can see that many modern homes are adding a vintage rustic feeling by adding a sliding "barn door."  In the second group, more contemporary styles are utilized.

If you head over to House Tweaking, Dana posted a tutorial for this fun yellow door.

Don't you just love the visual interest these doors add to the room?!  I know I sure do...

wedding wednesday: burlap

While this fabric is pretty much the polar opposite of the lace featured last week, I love it all the same.  In home decor, burlap has so much versatility, so prepare to be bombarded by a bajillion ideas.  I love the raw quality of burlap, and when used correctly in your home, the results can be outstanding.  So, without further ado, I give you, burlap:

1. Curtains
While otherwise a rather stiff material, it is amazing how light and flowing burlap can appear when used to adorn windows.  I especially adore it when it is paired with a light, flowing fabric, or embellished with some ruffles to give it a softer texture.

2. Pillows
While they may not be the softest thing to rest your head on, as throw pillows, they look fabulous.  Add some additional fabric accents or words to really complete the look.

3. Lamp Shades
Last week we featured a lace lamp shade, this week we feature lamp shades once again, but these result in a completely different look. You can use burlap to make a lampshade with exposed raw edges, or you can make something that is much more polished.  Each result is stunning.

4. Wall Art
Use burlap to create its own art, or add it to an existing bulletin board to jazz it up.

5. Table Runner
Add some texture to your table top with these simple runners.

6. Reupholster Furniture
Give some life to your boring headboard or add some flavor to a bland chair.  Whatever you choose, burlap acts as a great fabric for covering furniture.

...and because Christmas is approaching, I decided to throw in a bonus item:

7. Christmas Decor
From stockings to skirts to wreathes, burlap is making its presence known in the holiday decorating this year.
